Believe me, you don’t want to spend cold winter nights manually adjusting your telescope mount to track objects in the night sky.

This basically means you can remote control these mounts using astrophotography software on your smartphone, laptop, or PC. This means that these mounts can automatically find and track objects in the night sky, and they can be connected to astrophotography software that uses the ASCOM standard.
Also, all mounts I’m going to discuss are equipped with a computerized GoTo system and an ASCOM option. My criteria include that all six mounts are equatorial mounts that can accurately track the movement of the deep-sky objects you want to photograph at your specific location. I’ve made a pre-selection of telescope mounts that have all the necessary criteria, at least in my opinion, to take excellent pictures of the night sky with a telescope. Pre-selection criteria of good quality telescope mounts to start Astrophotography On the other hand, if you’re planning on getting a heavier telescope with a longer focal length, you’re going to need a higher class of telescope mounts which I’ll discuss in a future v/blog. Now, If you’re planning to photograph the night sky using only your DSLR camera and a lens, you’re probably better off buying a good-quality startracker.
Most people are inclined to buy these kinds of telescopes as their first serious investment to get into astrophotography. For example, think about a typical 480mm focal length refractor-telescopes, like my teleskop-service photoline apochromatic refractor, or a typical 8″ F/5 Newtonian telescope with a maximum focal length of about 1000mm. I also want to emphasize that I’m focussing on telescope mounts that are explicitly made to carry some of the smaller and lighter telescopes with a focal length of about 400 to 1000mm.

You can buy the most expensive astrophotography camera and telescope, but if you’re unable to accurately track the objects in the night sky due to the earth’s rotation, you’ll still end up with blurry astrophotography pictures. Both mounts are very promising as they are lightweight and include advanced features such as PPEC and built-in WiFi. If you are willing to try a brand new mount, iOptron has introduced two excellent new “next-generation” mounts on the astrophotography market about a year ago: the GEM28 ( USA, EU) and the CEM26 ( USA, EU).
They can support about 14 kg (33 lbs) of instrument capacity, which is sufficient to pair these mounts with a mid-sized refractor telescope, filter wheel, camera, and tracking gear. These two mounts have been on the market for several years, and include all the things you need to start your astrophotography hobby such as (1) a computerized (GoTo) option, (2) Autoguiding, (3) Periodic Error Control, (4) ASCOM, and (5) a USB connection.
